Get involved in gate debate

A gate has been installed at the school side of Stardust Lane. This is a private road that I have owned land and lived on for 20 years. I’ve learned that a small group of people, including two newcomers to the neighborhood, have bullied the state into building this gate. Stardust Lane has always been another evacuation access route and important ancillary access road for parents to get their kids to and from Kahakai Elementary School.

For 30 minutes school rush has cars packed beside my house. I accept this little inconvenience because I am a part of this community. My kids went to Kahakai and I realize the importance of this road. This gate is not a positive thing for most of the community. The 100-plus cars that used Stardust Lane will now have to filter into the Royal Poinciana rush.

How did this small group of people get the state to construct such a horrendous detriment to the surrounding community? As our neighborhoods grow, our roads do not. The only way that this is going to work, for the safety of our children, is to be considerate to each other —not take a working access away.

If you want to live in a gated community, fine. Please don’t move to my neighborhood and start putting up gates. If four people can get it installed, 40 to 400 can get it removed. If you have ever used Stardust Lane to take your kids to school please write to me (I am in the phone book) or to the principal, Mr. Denight, and let us know that you are not in support of this gate. The gate is not the fault of the Department of Education. I have told the principal of my intention to write this letter out of respect to him and his position. This gate needs to be removed and community involvement is the key. Please get involved.
